QUITTR left the App Store: what's known and what to do
Conflict of interest: I make Ballast, a competing app, and I benefit if you switch to it. Check the official links below for yourself. I have no inside knowledge of QUITTR and I'm not accusing anyone of anything.
As of 5 November 2026, QUITTR's App Store listing no longer loads in the six storefronts I checked. The cause is unknown, and so is whether this is permanent. If you paid for it, check Apple's Subscriptions screen today, because I couldn't find anything saying billing stops when a listing goes away. Then write your start date down somewhere that isn't the app.
What can be verified
| Date | What was observed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 14 Oct 2026 | The listing resolved, with 33,768 US ratings. | My lookup through Apple's public iTunes lookup service |
| 30 Oct 2026 | Another competing app reports that the listings no longer load on the App Store and Google Play, and that it found no statement from QUITTR and no press coverage of the removal. | Pledgely, a competitor |
| 1 Nov 2026 | An app tracker says the app "was removed from the US App Store and is no longer live", on its last crawl. It doesn't say who removed it or why. | AppGoblin |
| 5 Nov 2026 | Apple's lookup returned no result in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and UAE storefronts, and the listing pages returned "not found". QUITTR's website was still online with support pages, and its home page still linked to those store listings. | My own check; QUITTR support |
What isn't known
- Why. A listing can vanish for several reasons: the developer may have pulled it, Apple may have taken it down, or something temporary may be going on. I don't know which applies here. On 5 November I found no explanation on QUITTR's home or support pages, and a news search turned up no coverage of the listing going away. I couldn't read its social accounts. Be careful with anyone who sounds certain, competitors included.
- Whether it's permanent. It could come back. Check the listing again before relying on this page; the date above matters.
- What happens to the app on your phone. An installed app may keep opening, or it may not, depending on things I can't see from outside.
- What happens to renewals. I couldn't find an Apple rule that covers this case, so check rather than assume.
Separate reporting about user data
404 Media reported in March 2026 that a misconfigured database had exposed intimate data on hundreds of thousands of QUITTR users, and in April 2026 that the issue was fixed sometime before 10 March after several people had warned the company. These are 404 Media's reports; part of each is for paying members and I've only read the public part.
I have no evidence connecting that reporting to the listing's disappearance, and I'm not suggesting a connection. It's here because if you had an account, you can act on it. See your account data below.
How to check and cancel a subscription through Apple
Deleting an app does not cancel its subscription. These steps are from Apple's cancellation guide:
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll. If there's no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message in red, it's already cancelled.
Can't find it? Search your email for "receipt from Apple" or "invoice from Apple" to see which Apple Account paid. If you find no Apple receipt, you may have paid another way: check your card statement and QUITTR's support page, which has its own cancellation and refund pages. On Android, use Google Play's subscriptions screen.
Refunds. You can ask Apple. Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose "I'd like to", then "Request a refund", pick your reason and the subscription, and submit. Apple says to wait 24 to 48 hours for an update. Some purchases are eligible and some aren't, so there's no promise here, but it's reasonable to ask if you paid for time you can't use.
How to keep your start date
The date is the part that's yours, and it's easy to keep. Do this before you delete anything.
- If the app still opens, screenshot your streak, your start date and anything you wrote that you want to keep.
- Write the date down somewhere that isn't the app: your notes, your calendar, on paper.
- Write down what you've learned too. Your triggers and what's helped are worth more than the number, and a plan sheet is a good place for them.
Don't count on any app importing a streak from another. Ballast doesn't. Its setup simply asks when you last slipped, so you can carry your count across by hand; any tracker can do the same. If the number is lost, what you did during those days isn't.
Your account data
- Delete the account first, if you can. If the app still opens, check its settings before you remove it from your phone.
- Otherwise, ask in writing. Use QUITTR's support page to request deletion, and save what you sent. Some countries' privacy laws give you a right to this.
- Reused a password? Change it everywhere else you used it.
- Distrust messages about the app. Treat anything unexpected that mentions it as suspect, above all a refund offer or a request for money. Go straight to Apple or to the company's own site instead. If a message threatens to expose you, don't pay; contact your local police.
If you relied on its blocking
Check that it still blocks what you expect, rather than assuming so. Apple's built-in Screen Time filter is free, takes about five minutes and doesn't depend on any app staying in the store. Set it up on a calm day rather than on the night you need it.
How to choose what's next
You may not need another app. A filter, a written plan and one person you can talk to cover a lot. If you do want one, these questions come from the complaints I read most often in this category's App Store reviews:
- Do you see what it costs before a long quiz? Being asked to pay after a long setup is the most common complaint.
- Is help free at the moment you need it?
- Where does your data live, and does it need an account? Read the privacy label and the policy.
- Can you get your data out? Lost streaks are a repeated complaint.
- What happens to blocking if you stop paying? It should release cleanly.
- What does it claim? Be wary of countdowns and brain claims. Here's what the research supports.
- Do you want a community or a faith-based app? Those are fair things to want, and some apps do them well.
The dated comparison covers ten apps, including where they do better than mine.
When to look for more help
Ballast is a self-tracking and educational tool, not treatment. None of these is a diagnosis, but any one is a fair reason to book a conversation: you've tried to cut back several times and it keeps coming back; it's eating into sleep, work or time with people; it has become the main way you deal with stress or low mood; or you feel low or anxious most days.
- A therapist. Look for someone who works with CBT or ACT and is comfortable talking about sex.
- Your GP or family doctor. A good first stop if you're unsure. They can check what else might be going on and refer you on.
- SMART Recovery. Free peer meetings, online and in person, built on practical CBT-style tools.
- SAA. A twelve-step fellowship with free meetings in many countries and online.
If things feel very dark: if you are having thoughts of harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line now. In the US, call or text 988. Elsewhere, findahelpline.com lists free lines by country.
Questions
Why did QUITTR leave the App Store?
The cause is unknown. As of 5 November 2026 I have not seen a statement from the company or from Apple that explains it. The developer may have pulled the listing, Apple may have taken it down, or it may be temporary.
Is my QUITTR subscription still charging me?
It might be, so check. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. If QUITTR is listed there with a renewal date, cancel it. If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red, it's already cancelled.
Can I move my QUITTR streak to another app?
I don't know of an app that imports it. Write down your start date and screenshot your streak if the app still opens, then enter the date or day count by hand in whatever you use next.
Will QUITTR come back?
Nobody outside the company and Apple can say. Check the App Store directly and don't rely on a dated page, including this one.
